In Australia Canberra United with Lydia Williams and Sally Shipard celebrated a successful weekend. In a 5-0 win over Adelaide United with Ashleigh Gunning and Marijana Rajcic, Canberra secured the top position one week before the last matchday, which is a bye weekend for them.
The Newcastle Jets with Emily van Egmond suffered a setback in the race for the playoff spots after a 1-3 loss against Brisbane Roar. Next week Newcastle has to defeat Perth Glory and hope that Adelaide United wins against Melbourne Victory to reach the playoffs.
In Italy Maria Karlsson had a stellar debut for Bardolino Verona. A few days after her arrival, the defender had her debut in the top match at champion Sassari Torres. Despite permanent pressure Verona did not give up a goal and marked the lucky punch in the final minute of the match to win the game and take the lead in the league.
A less successful debut has to be reported from France. Rebecca Spencer and Fiona O'Sullivan had their premier game for ASJ Soyaux Charente in the match against Vendenheim. The home team lost 1-2, Fiona O'Sullivan's last minute goal was too late to rescue anything.
