Germany, Last Matchday: Essen avoids relegation

In the relegation battle between SC Freiburg and SG Essen-Schönebeck the guests expectedly had the better end for themselves. Freiburg needed a win with four goals to send their opponents to 2. Bundesliga, but this didn’t happen. Freiburg wanted an early goal but Essen had the first strike after 34 minutes with Freiburg only succeeding to score the equalized in the 65th – final score 1-1. With Kelly Parker still sitting out due to injury, Mele French went 60 minutes, and Michelle Wenino the full time for Freiburg, while Emily Zurrer battled for Essen.

Tennis Borussia Berlin left the league with a 3-1 win over Hamburger SV. Amanda Feigt scored the lead for the team from the capital which was answered with the half time whistle. In the middle of  the second half Berlin added a pair for the first win this year.

In 2. Bundesliga Allison Scurich and Jeannette Dyer said goodbye to their club TSV Crailsheim with a stellar win. 5-0 over Bayern Munich II was the final result which means rank 4 in the final standings. While Scurich wants to stay in Germany and is in talks with clubs, Dyer will most likely become assistant coach at an American college.

Germany: Turbine Potsdam wins championship, Black Sunday for CWF Players

While Turbine Potsdam defended its title after a 1-0 win over SC Bad Neuenahr, it was another black Sunday for the CWF girls:

1.FFC Frankfurt vs. TeBe Berlin 13:0 (8:0). Yes, you are reading right. Frankfurt’s collection of World Champions and international stars tramped over already relegated Berlin with Kat Tarr and Amanda Feigt that obviously did not have the energy to keep a loss in limits.

FCR Duisburg vs. SC Freiburg 5:0 (3:0). Without injured Kelly Parker but with Michelle Wenino and Mele French SC Freiburg did not have a chance against the still reigning UEFA Cup winner who now has best chances to claim rank 2 and clinch a Champions League spot.

SG Essen-Schönebeck vs. 1.FC Saarbrücken 0:1 (0:1). Emily Zurrer and SG Essen-Schönebeck did not only miss to reach the safety zone, they also had to see how their opponents reached it instead of them. Despite being the far better team Essen suffered a loss due to a goalie mistake in the starting minutes. Essen did not convince with playing quality but still managed to create enough chances for several games but three times the crossbar (one after a Zurrer header) saved for Saarbrücken and other big chances like an open header without opponent from five meter distance could not be converted.

This time also TSV Crailsheim in 2. Bundesliga South did not improve the record. Allison Scurich and Jeannette Dyer suffered a 1-2 road loss at 1.FFC Frankfurt II.

Next weekend will be the last matchday in Germany. It will come down to a deciding battle between SC Freiburg and SG Essen-Schönebeck for the second relegation spot. The situation is easy: Freiburg has to win with a margin of four goals to avoid relegation.

Chelsea White 1st Goal

With Kvarnsveden´s 3rd game in the 2010 season and Chelsea earned her 1st start. It took the striker less than 25 minutes to score after an impressive run through the middle. She showed her strength and speed as she broke away from the defenders and got her first goal of the season. Sara had another solid 90 minutes, organizing the defense and shutting out Västerås B30 for a clean sheet.

The 2-0 win gives Kvarnsveden 4 points.

Other notes:

- Local newspapers were impressed by Chelsea´s power and speed

- Darcel Mollon (T&T International) was a constant offensive threat that created several chances for herself and her teammates.
