Sunday Action in Germany

Despite of returning snow an almost complete matchday could be played in Germany, for many the first full week. It was a weekend with mixed emotions.

Obviously some would not be happy after the relegation battle between Tennis Borussia Berlin and SG Essen-Schönebeck. CWF sent two players to each team and oddly both had to play without one of them due to injury. On Essen’s side Brittany Timko will miss for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL, while for Berlin Amanda Feigt had to sit out with a pulled muscle. That way both sides played with defensive help from North America. For Essen it was Emily Zurrer and for Berlin Katarina Tarr who defended for their teams. Both went full 90 in their debut with Essen being the luckier team that maybe already got rid off relegation worries today after a 2-1 road win. After almost half an hour Essen scored the lead with Berlin scoring the equalizer almost straight afterwards. The shocker for the hosts happened in the last minute with young talent Sofia Nati scoring the game winner in stoppage time.

SC Freiburg had a stellar success. Being with just 3 points on the bottom they pulled away their second win of the season with a 4-1 win over SC Bad Neuenahr which ranked fourth before this game. With Kelly Parker in the starting lineup Bad Neuenahr scored the first goal of the game but until halftime the hosts turned it around to a 2-1 lead. After an hour Freiburg added another goal before Michelle Wenino gave her league debut as substitute in the 66thminute. Twelve minutes later Mele French entered the game and added the final goal of the game with three minutes left on the clock.

SC Freiburg stays on the bottom of the standings with 6 pts in 14 games, also TeBe Berlin is on a relegation spot with as many points in 13 games – both chase 1.FC Saarbrücken on rank 10 that has 9 pts in 12 games. Essen Schönebeck climbed to rank 9 with now 13 games in 14 games.

Lacchelli with successful Italy debut

She had to wait a while for the papers of the Italian authorities, then she had to wait two games before she got her chance to play - and she took it. In the Coppa Italia Selenia Iacchelli played her first game for ASD Torres against Lazio Rome and added the goal for the final score of 3-0.

Also on the way is the Algarve Cup in Portugal which features a couple of players who are represented by CWF. Sweden started with a 2-2 draw against Norway with the trio Sara Larsson, Caroline Seger and Jessica Landström starting in this game. Landström marked the game tying goal in the 53rd minute. In their second game Sweden dominated Iceland to a 5-1 win. All three players got a break with Seger and Landström entering the pitch in the second half.

Denmark had suffered a starting loss against Germany with the final result of 0-4. Representing Denmark were Line Roddik Hansen, Julie Rydahl Bukh and Johanna Rasmussen. Rasmussen and Roddik Hansen also started in the 0-2 loss against China in the second game.

Scurich scores first goal in Germany

The league action in Europe rested on the NT weekend. Only one of the CWF players was active in a re-scheduled game. TSV Crailsheim faced ASV Hagsfeld and it turned out to be a triple success for Allison Scurich: as team since they won 5-0, as defence organizer since they clinched a shutout, and as goal scorer when she marked the 4-0 after 70 minutes. Crailsheim is unbeaten since eight games now and climbed to third place in the standings.

In a 3-0 win over Poland multiple CWF players were in the middle of the action. The starting lineup contained Erin McLeod, Brittany Timko, Emily Zurrer, Candace Chapman and Kelly Parker.  In this expectedly easy task Kelly Parker succeeded with scoring her first goal for Team Canada in the minute 41 (2-0). Bad luck unfortunately for Brittany Timko who tore her ACL in the first half of the game - all the best for your healing process.

Potsdam too strong for Freiburg

Only Mele French saw action in SC Freiburg’s first Bundesliga game after the winter break. Turbine Potsdam, one of Europe’s powerhouses expectedly was too strong for the last ranked club. 0-4 was the final result of the game, in which French entered the game at halftime. Michelle Wenino's work permit did not arrive in time, while Kelly Parker is with the Canadian NT in Cyprus. In the meantime SG Essen-Schönebeck collected a surprising point against UEFA Cup winner FCR Duisburg in a 1-1 draw while Emily Zurrer and Brittany Timko are also in Cyprus. All other games in Germany were canceled due to weather for this weekend.

Scurich starts 2010 with a draw

Winter temperatures all over Germany, all games but one are canceled. The one exception hit Allison Scurich with TSV Crailsheim who had to play at Wacker Munich. To make the game possible it was moved to turf. The winning streak of the 2. Bundesliga team got snapped with a 1-1 (0-0) draw, but still they are undefeated since seven games now. The defence around Allison only allowed the second goal within this time span today.

INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS FROM GÜTERSLOH

With his agency 3G Sports Olaf Goldbecker sends female soccer players to top clubs

Two Canadian players support SG Essen-Schönebeck, one player from the US and one from Canada go to SC Freiburg, two Americans sign with Tennis Borussia Berlin – there is lots of movement in Women’s Bundesliga. And who is responsible for that? A guy from Gütersloh. “The winter break went well”, says Olaf Goldbecker. The 33 year old successfully entered the international transfer business with his company 3G Sports.

From 2004 to 2009 Goldbecker was Team Manager at FC Gütersloh. Here he gained lots of contacts (“I always put emphasis on communication with other clubs”) and collected first experiences with transfers. The Californian Erica Janke was the first American he got over to FC Gütersloh in 2007. “With her we would have clinched the promotion”, regrets Goldbecker that she returned to the States after only half a year. Forward Lauryn Welch followed 2008. Defender Lisa Gebhard is in her second season in Gütersloh – now at FSV though.

Separating from FCG also meant a cut for Olaf Goldbecker. He stepped back and only supports the new club in the areas Internet and club paper. Instead he  enforced other activities – like founding a Summer League and the area of Consulting. He even had a job offer from a US pro league club in sight but the transaction failed when the GM was exchanged.

Instead Goldbecker searched the contact to a guy whose name crossed his path several times – Khaled El Ahmad. The in Sweden born American with Lebanese roots built his agency Connect World Football in Sweden. “We realized that we fit together”, explains the man from Gütersloh. In early November he founded his own company to coordinate his cooperation with CWF more professionally and to have a clean bookkeeping. El-Ahmad has the official FIFA license as player agent and by that fulfills the formal requirements to do the job. For the name of his company “3G Sports Services” he made use of the alliteration Goldbecker, Gütersloh, Germany – but in the Internet presence www.cwfootball.com he is called Global Representative. “I do not only cover Germany but also the adjoining countries”, explains Goldbecker.

This also explains how he recently transferred the Canadian Selenia Iacchelli to the Italian Champions League participant Eurospin Torres or the in Sweden active American to a pro contract in the USA. In total Olaf Goldbecker made  a hook behind ten transfer in the last weeks, an eleventh is close to be finished. “If there’d be a transfer break each month it would be good for the business”, smiles Goldbecker who is working at the steel trader Amtenbrink. From his extra job he could not live alone but the compensation is fitting according to him.

“We do not approach players, the opposite is the case”, explains Goldbecker the philosophy of the company. According to his estimation there are about 50 players on Bundesliga level who leave college each year but just a small percentage can get a job in the pro league, so there is a huge number of possible clients. Goldbecker also expects several German NT players to go to the USA after the World Cup 2011.

“The market naturally is not as big as in the men’s sector”, says the women’s expert without speaking about a hole in the market. In Germany mainly the company Profipartner 24 from Siegen, led by Dietmar Ness and Bodo Sandrock made a name in the business. They also manage the former Gütersloh player Lena Goessling. Goldbecker does not work with current players from Gütersloh and also does not aim on them.

The negative reputation of player agents in men’s soccer did not catch Olaf Goldbecker yet. “The clubs are thankful when I offer them players”. Obviously there are different rules in women’s soccer. “We do fair deals”, says Goldbecker. He knows that only a successful transfer will result in a new deal. That way he has to hope that exactly the Canadian NT players Brittany Timko (24) and Emily Zurrer (22) he sent to Essen will shoot his ex-club FSV Gütersloh out of the cup competition on February 7. Goldbecker is seeing that without emotions: “The contacts existed before the quarter finals were drawn, and regardless if with or without them FSV is only having outsider chances.”

Timko, Zurrer, Parker, French move to German Bundesliga

Two double transfer were completed to the German Bundesliga:

SC Freiburg signed Canadian international Kelly Parker and American forward Mele French. Both of them became WPS Champion with Sky Blue FC last season and now they are set to help Bundesliga last ranked Freiburg to avoid relegation.

The same mission counts for a pair of Canadian NT players, Brittany Timko and Emily Zurrer. They were signed by SG Essen-Schönebeck who are also in the quarter finals of the national cup competition. Timko will be transferred from Swedish Pitea IF, while Zurrer moves from W-League site Chicago Red Eleven to the western parts of Germany.

Allison Scurich got a new defensive partner with her fellow Jeannette Dyer and the 'Yank Wall' didn't allow a single goal since. Wins at Wörrstadt (3-0), against Duisburg II (1-0) and at Löchgau (2-0) made the club climb to the upper third of the table to rank 4.

Catching up with Kia McNeil

ST. LOUIS, MO (October 28, 2009) – Kia McNeill is never far from a soccer field. The Athletica defender just won’t stay away from the game she loves, and this fall is no different. Even before this past WPS season ended McNeill knew she would be returning to her alma mater, and she would be returning as a coach.

This fall McNeill is working as the assistant coach for the Boston College Women’s team, a team that she played for just two years ago.

“I can really relate and connect with the players on a level that the other coaches may not be able to,” saidMcNeill. “It wasn't too long ago that I was in the shoes of these girls, and I still know what it is like to be a player.”

McNeill’s Boston College squad is currently ranked 8th in the nation. To date they have posted a record of 14-2-1 as they enjoy one of the best seasons in the program’s history. Boston College opened the year with a ten game unbeaten streak in which they scored 37 goals while only allowing one.

Her team Crailsheim went up 1-0 and kept the score until the middle of the second half when Leverkusen lost a player after an ejection. The defensive battle continued though and Crailsheim faced the equaliser. One point would have been a success but in the third minute of the stoppage time the referee pointed on the spot and gave the road team a penalty kick they converted for a 2-1 win at Crailsheim. The Swedish Premier league has never been this exciting and close. Three teams have the chance to claim the gold, LFC, Umeå and Göteborg.

Next up a decisive game as LFC hosts Umeå.

Goal scoring was the main culprit of the Breakers falling short of the WPS playoffs in the 2009 season.  The Breakers hope Weimer, a forward, is one of the answers they are looking for in the second season of WPS, as she is expected to contribute as a goal-scorer for the Breakers.

“Tiffany Weimer is a proven scorer and one of the most creative and entertaining players I have ever coached,” said DiCicco.  “I am delighted that Tiffany will be on this squad and I look forward to getting her fully familiar with the Breakers attacking scheme and teammates.”

“I am really excited and honored to be a part of the Boston Breakers organization, especially to play for Tony again,” said Weimer.  “Being back in New England, playing in front of my family and friends makes this an incredible opportunity that I am truly thankful for.”

Schumacher-Hodge scores, Scurich remains unbeaten

With a 3-0 home win over Västeras BK 30, Marisha Schumacher-Hodge and Ragsveds IF gained some safety in the relegation fight in Swedish Norrettan. Marisha, who started every match since her arrival, scored the final goal of the game. Next week the team travels to last ranked Mariehem and can wipe out any relegation danger with a win.

In Germany, Allison Scurich also played full 90 in her third game for TSV Crailsheim. After two wins this time the team had to drive home with a 2-2 draw at ASV Hagsfeld. Scurich is highly praised for her defensive work, the team only allowed goals on free kicks and a penalty kick so far. Next week Crailsheim expects a tough challenge against VfL Sindelfingen which did not give up a single goal this season.

Soccer Luv - in 2006 the Soccer Luv concept came to life in Wheaton Illinois through a unique 3v3 tournament. Jack Blake, a UWM alumni, wanted to honor his father. 10 years since he past away and it was time to truly KICK Cancer.

Thus the idea of Jack Kicks Cancer, www.jackkickscancer.com

It is an event we are CWF are very proud to be part of and support.

Here is this years re-cap:

Another year. Another fight. Another Victory.

An endless amount of THANKS to those who were able to come out last Saturday for Jack Kicks Cancer 2009 and show their support. Also a huge thanks to those who were unable to make it but made their support known through donations, thoughts, and prayers.

As I grabbed the microphone to kick things off Saturday morning, my mind was racing with anticipation, excitement, and plenty of emotion. Before me stood the biggest crowd we had yet to host at JKC. Initially I had planned on thanking a few key supporters that have gone above and beyond to make this event the huge success it has been since year one. But my thoughts were overcome by sheer happiness. A feeling of awe that so many people, even strangers whom I have never met, are willing to support my fight against a disease that has taken my fathers life, and also affected me personally.  My dedication to fighting cancer is nothing without your support, and I, my family, and my father thank you for it.

There were a few people I failed to mention on Saturday that I felt deserved a little recognition.

Whole Foods hosted a 5% day which amounted to a donation over $3,700!! (A huge thanks to those who attended and contributed)
Panera have been with us from the start and their food donation raised over $500, with every penny made being donated
Nike - A Thank you for donating all the gear seen at the tournament (including the great new shirts)
Mr Abernathy and Family, the Travis family, the Kilrea family, and the Williams family.....all who continue to amaze me with their support on and off the field.

For those of you unable to make it to the reception afterwards, I am pleased to announce that we raised over $13,000 for the Lance Armstrong Foundation!!!!!  You have outdone yourselves once again with your generosity to the point where thanking you would be an understatement.

There is nothing more I can do now but leave you with the idea that each and every one of you has made a profound impact on cancer patients across the world.

I look forward to sharing in this fight with ALL of you again next year.

Sincerely,

Jack Blake
