JNO's Recovery Blog

I tore my ACL on February 9th. I knew immediately what had happened, my heart was racing and my mind was going every which direction. It took all my strength to calm myself down and tell myself things were going to be fine! My first thought when I felt my knee pop was ‘wow that felt good haha’ and then I started to think the popping was not a good thing. I def had mixed emotions.

The next few days after finding out I tore my ACL I was surprisingly fine. I didn’t feel sad, angry or frustrated. I started to plan out what was my next step. In a moment like this you can’t change the situation so you might as well stay positive and make new goals and challenges for yourself. As the week went by I couldn’t wait for the day of my surgery. I knew once I finally got surgery each day was going to be one step closer to being back onto the pitch.

Today Feb 17th I went under the knife. I finally started to feel nervous and scared. Things started to sink in. Everything started to feel real.

I woke up from surgery and started to cry. Looking down at my knee and realizing I actually tore my ACL freaked me out. It finally hit me. I am out for the season. I immediately jumped ahead and thought about how I might not feel a part of the team or that I will feel out of the loop. I began to feel angry. Every positive emotion and high spirits I had pre operation was gone. I buried my pain and emotions so deep to stay positive, to let everyone know I was going to be okay and come back strong. Everything that I was hiding came out in that hospital bed, I finally broke down. I let myself feel what I should have felt after I tore my ACL. Sometimes I am so worried about letting people know I am okay and that I am determined, that I forget to cry.

It’s going to be hard watching the girls in preseason. I think the next month is going to be the hardest for me for mentally!

The most amazing thing is I am strong willed and very determined! I am going to put all my pain and frustrations into my rehab and come back stronger than ever. I will allow myself to have a day or so to be human, to feel the emotions that within my heart and mind. But after that its game time…I am ready to fight! Each month I will set a goal for myself to achieve. I feel like the first month will be the hardest mentally. So my first goal is to stay positive and optimistic no matter what I am feeling! I will not feel sorry for myself and I will push through pain.

HELLO!

I have been back in the states for about a month. I am NY training with my trainer and loving it. Everyday is a challenge and its really hard but I keep thinking of the end result. He has been challenging me in ways i never thought my body could handle. As I mentioned in the last blog he has introduced to me "long gon dola" (this massive hill that never ends) I have ran her about 5 times now. I have pushed myself mentally and physically to get up and down that hill. I have even passed out because of her hahaha. But its an amazing feeling when I realize its getting easier everytime. BUT once I conquer that hill.....he has another one waiting for me. His quote "once I get bored watching you run Lon gon dola...I have another hill that will kick your butt". I also have been doing a lot of plyos and ball work. Everything we do is things I really need to work on. I cant wait to see what I can do when Bostons preseason begins!

Other than training everyday, I am relaxing and enjoying being in NY. I am going to NYC for New Years and going to be there for the weekend. I was in NYC when I was little but dont remember much, so I cant wait to do the typical site seeing and fun adventures. Does anyone have suggestions on great things to experience?

Until Next Time.....

I am finally back in the states! I landed in NY yesterday afternoon. It has only been a day here in the states and I already miss Sweden! THe weather here is much Nicer but I am missing everyone across the Atlantic!

I will be in NY training for the next couple months preparing for the Boston season! Even though the sweden season ended I have a long road ahead of me. BUt its somehting I am really excited for and cant wait for the challenge! I start training again on Saturday.

When my trainer picked me up from the airport he was really excited about the new fitness drills he has instore for me! On the way back to the house he drove by my new best friend.....this HUGE hill that never ends! He told me to get comfortable with her because she will soon become my best friend and we will be spending lots of time together! This is the one thing that I am not excited about hahhaha. To make a terrifying thing a good thing I named the hill Longgondola! The hill is LONG and soon it will be GONE and DOLA just sounds fun and I need something to be a little fun about this! hahahah! It will soon kick my butt!

My experience the last few months have been amazing but its great to be back on a regular schedule training hard for my next season with Boston!

My last week here in Pitea is coming to an end very fast! It is bitter sweet! I am looking forward to seeing my family and friends and getting back to Boston. But I also am going to miss everyone I have became close with here in Pitea!

We lost our last game. Very disappointing because Pitea is now going to go back to Div 1. I truly believe that this team has so much talent and heart that they deserve to stay! If only a few things would of gone our way or something different would of happened in the first half of there season. But I think that they have what it takes to be better than some of the teams that are staying in the top league! Its sad to leave Pitea in this situation!

We have one more game left against Umea. It will be interesting to see if the girls want to show up and play. This team has done well all year I hope we go out and prove to everyone that we can beat a great team!

This last week is going by way too fast. Trying to fit everything in is going to be hard. I have to make sure I get a lot of chocolate, lots of time for shopping, and of course the last week I am here I find that the LF arena has open hours to the public to ice skate! So I am going to do that for sure. haha

But I really just want to make this last week memorable!

Thanks to all our fans for being at every game and supporting us. It was truly fun to play in such a great atmosphere. Thanks to the girls for taking me feel apart of a family. Thanks to the coaches and staff for taking a chance on me and helping me become a better player!

One week left...lets make it a good week!

Hej Hej!

I am going to start out with a fun fact!!! Hälge is the name of Sweden’s moose like Bullwinkle is the name of the moose I grew up with!! That is just funny. I visited the moose farm in Umea and it was fantastic. We fed the moose whole fruit and vegetables. It was kind of scary when the moose grabbed the whole banana and banana peal from your hand. Just when things started to get interesting Hälge surprised me even more. People can ride the moose!!! It is at your own risk of course, but that is the coolest thing. Unfortunately the guy would not help me up and I didn’t have anyone around me who could help push me onto Hälge. I could of ran and jumped on him but I don’t think that would be the smartest idea. I didn’t want the moose to attack me. All the little kids were being lifted and just placed on him and I would have bulldozed him over probably. So I just watched as the kids had all the fun haha!

We lost our last game. It was a very upsetting and emotional game. We lost 2-1 against Gotenburg. I never like to blame the refs but this referee defiantly cost us the game. Gotenburg’s first goal was because the referee said our defender passed the ball back to our goalkeeper and she picked it up. A missed clearance is not a pass back! The second goal was a fifty fifty ball with there forward and our goalie. Our goalie tipped the ball away in the box and the ref called a foul on our keeper, and she got a red card! WHAT? That was with four minutes left into the game. We really needed those three points. The press conference went well. The other team said we deserved to win and that we were the better team but things like this happen in the game of soccer! Which is true but it’s hard to lose when you worked so hard and deserved it. Gotenburg was the third place team so it did show how we can play well against anyone! Our next game is Sunday the 18th against Hammabry.

My favorite things to do here in Sweden are shopping, eating Swedish chocolate and watching Swedish Idol! If anyone has ever had European chocolate then you know how much chocolate I am consuming hahaha! It’s like the Pringles commercial “once you pop you can’t stop”. J

Also I am very excited to say I am coming back with a new style! Don’t worry I am still going to wear my crazy sunglasses with my new style but the Swedish girls have rubbed off on me. Dressing up and not wearing soccer clothes all the time has gotten the best of me! I don’t think I ever see Swedish girls in sweat pants. Sweat pants are my best friend!

Swedish Idol is basically the same as American Idol. The one thing I love the most is Swedish Idol sings in English. Go figure! I never really understood why but I guess singing in English is going to sell more records. But I am hooked on Swedish Idol and loving it.

Well the weather is getting colder and colder. Sometimes during practice our turf field gets frozen and becomes very slippery. We are about to turn on the heat. I hope. haha Since it snows during season our field is heated so we are not actually playing in the snow! Once the snow hits the field it melts immediately! Now the only thing I have to conquer is riding my bike in the snow. Too bad the streets and sidewalks are not heated. Haha Ill let you know how that goes.

I miss Boston and all of you!
