Boston

Hi for new readers and hi again for old readers. For those of you who don’t know, my name is Tiffany Weimer and I play for the Boston Breakers of the WPS.

I am now living in Boston, a whole two and a half hours from home in Connecticut. Since I’ve been in Boston (three days) I have gotten two parking tickets. When I saw the second one I’m pretty sure I shouted out the window that I hated the city of Boston and followed that with a very loud “Go Yankees!”  I know some of my teammates heard me, but not sure if anyone else did…probably a good thing. I apologize for my actions.

Anyway, I am adjusting, slowly.  I survived my first rotary, barely.  I spent a night at Leslie Osborne’s place where the T (the train in Boston) shook the place like a series of mini earthquakes all night and I’ve only gone the wrong way on one one-way street.  All in all I’d say that’s a good start.

Preseason

We did the Beep Test in the first 20 minutes of my Boston Breakers career, which was awesome. Big thank you to whoever invented it.

We played 11v11 shortly after the Beep Test and it was great to be back in action.  I haven’t played full field in a long time.

I am pretty sure that I have more bruises from that 11v11 game though than I have had all off-season playing in men’s leagues and with boy’s teams.  What’s up with that?

Sushi

Leslie Osborne is addicted to sushi and strongly influences the people around her.

Recommendations for new places welcome.

Weather

I am thankful for the bubble at Harvard Stadium.

But I can’t wait to go to Florida for some of our preseason.

Saw this awesome video combining two of my absolute favorite things in life: Guitar Hero and Soccer http://tiny.cc/OvcCx

I would love to try this one day.

This got me to thinking about the things I enjoy doing in my free time and I realized there was one thing in common about everything I like to do: it's always competitive.

Guitar Hero. Farmville (the ever-so-popular Facebook application). Ping Pong. Bowling. Learning words to songs... I love knowing the words when no one else does. (also includes knowing the name of the song and the artist) I even am competitive with having the most friends on Facebook and the amount of people I have following me on Twitter.

I feel like this competitive nature has helped me become the athlete I am, but I never really realized how I bring this trait to everything I do.

Going back to the soccer/Guitar Hero game. I think that would be a blast. If anyone knows how we can make this happen please send me an email at: tweimer8@gmail.com !! Thank you!!

The off-season is in full swing... lots of coaching and training.  It's quite different from the actual season. Even though we don't have practice everyday, or games or traveling, I feel like I'm busier now.

I have coaching almost everyday, daily workouts that I have to keep up with and pickup soccer with the boys that go to Santa Clara.  It doesn't seem like a lot when I say it like that, but somehow I feel so busy.

The time I have off I find myself going to college soccer games or watching it on TV... mostly Liverpool. (I just can't stay away) I'm lucky to be in the Bay Area because there is lots of quality soccer to watch: Santa Clara, Stanford and Cal... who bring in teams like USC, UCLA, Portland, Notre Dame. So, it's been fun following the local teams.

Sometimes I think I need to get a life though!

Aside from soccer, I've gone to a San Francisco Giants game; saw the Australian Pink Floyd (who totally rock btw); relaxed in Santa Cruz at the beach; watched a bunch of Penn State Football and even went on a hike!

Although it's been busy, I feel like it's a good mental and physical break from an actual season. I was in season from May 2008-August 2009 basically.  I played in the WPSL for Tony DiCicco and the Connecticut Reds... then went right to Finland in August to play for Aland United... then went to Brazil in November to play for Santos for two months.

After Santos, I had the WPS Combine, taking me to January where I started training for preseason.  And March 1st it started all over again all the way until two months ago.  So the "break" has been nice.

Anyway, I will be back in next week to check in again. Until then, lots of soccer luv!!

CWF - Editorial

Welcome to the CWF Editorial Spot!

My name is Tiffany Weimer. I was born and raised in the fabulous state of Connecticut which is known more for not being known for something than anything else.  I am currently playing professional soccer in the WPS. Last season I played with FC Gold Pride out of the Bay Area in California- a big change from the east coast, but definitely a great experience.

I just recently made the decision to go back to the east coast for the 2010 season to play for my former coaches Tony DiCicco and Lisa Cole with the Boston Breakers. I am absolutely thrilled for this new opportunity as I will be back in New England playing in front of my friends and family.
Although I won't be in the Bay Area next season, the Pride will always have a special place in my heart and I am truly thankful for the experience as well as the fans who stood by us unconditionally.

As for now, there are a lot of exciting things happening in the off-season. The WPS and its teams are looking to improve from the inaugural season, making year #2 something to really look forward to.

For me- I learned a lot on and off the field in my first season as a professional athlete. I learned that 6 months is a long season and you have to maintain yourself throughout (my body is not what it was when I was in college) I learned that we make more of an impact in a single conversation with a kid than anything we could ever do on the field and lastly I learned that being a professional is an incredible privilege that should never be taken for granted.

With all that said, I have a lot to work on in the off-season. I want to improve on the physical dimension of my game; 1v1 defending; improving my left foot and finally my aerial game. Yes, lots to work on as always.

I will check in every week to give you updates and news!

Soccer Luv,

Tiffany Weimer (Ocho)
